Innovative Silo discharge screw for the sugar industry

Another exciting project is taking shape: AMF-Bruns is supplying an automated Silo discharge screw and the associated control technology for a well-known customer who has expanded its silo storage capacity with a new 45,000-ton sugar silo. This enables production processes to be optimized and efficiency to be significantly increased.

For an even discharge

But how exactly does the residual emptying system work? Let’s take a closer look at the planned system: First, the silo is emptied gravimetrically through the central discharge hopper. The sugar then flows – still gravimetrically – into the other hoppers, which are positioned along the line. It is important to ensure the static balance of the silo at all times during this process.

The remaining material is then automatically discharged with the residual discharge screw. The AMF-Bruns residual discharge screw to be installed here with a size of 1,000 x 20,600 mm ensures a constant and even discharge.

High productivity thanks to innovative automation

This process is largely automated and therefore achieves the highest standards in terms of production, environmental compatibility and safety. Particular attention is paid to hygiene and HACCP-compliant design, which applies to all system components and the building as a whole. This means that the specific requirements of the sugar industry in terms of hygiene and protective measures are fully met.

The advantages of the planned plant include not only the proven quality of AMF-Bruns, but also the high degree of automation: production is controlled and monitored by an innovative process control system with intelligent field devices. All plant components are integrated into this control system.

This ensures personnel-optimized operation. The high output with low energy consumption will also help to optimize operating costs in the future.

Commissioning of the new system is scheduled for next fall. Dennis von Horn, Head of the Sugar Business Unit, summarizes: “We are pleased that we will be able to contribute to efficient production in the future with innovative technology and would like to thank everyone involved for the good cooperation.”
