A Little More Freedom for Mats and His Family

For Mats and his family from Wiefelstede, everyday life comes with particular challenges. Mats has cerebral palsy as a result of oxygen deprivation at birth. Combined with epilepsy, this presents significant challenges for him and his family every day.

Mats is unable to sit, stand or walk independently and therefore relies on a wheelchair. It is all the more important to provide him with an environment that offers safety, mobility and the greatest possible opportunity to participate in family life.

With the support of the AMF-Bruns Foundation, part of the accessibility conversion of the family vehicle could be funded. This now makes it possible for Mats to travel safely and without assistance to kindergarten, medical appointments and therapy sessions.

However, the vehicle conversion means much more to the family than simply making everyday life easier. It opens up new possibilities and greater freedom: family outings and activities are now easier to plan, allowing the family to spend time together more independently – without having to rely on the support of others.

The vehicle conversion therefore represents a significant improvement in quality of life, independence and social participation for Mats and his family. At the same time, it eases a major burden in their everyday lives and gives the family something truly valuable back: freedom and independence.
