When Mobility Makes Everyday Life Easier
The AMF-Bruns Foundation Supports a Single Mother
For parents whose child relies on a wheelchair long-term, mobility can be a particular challenge. A suitable vehicle and a functional access solution are not just a matter of comfort—they can play a crucial role in helping people lead independent and safe daily lives.
The AMF-Bruns Foundation has now been able to provide this kind of support to Tanja Lanari-Brosig and her five-year-old son.
Tanja is a single mother of a five-year-old son who has multiple severe disabilities. He suffers from a life-shortening illness, has severe epilepsy, and is permanently dependent on his wheelchair. The past few years have been very difficult for both mother and son in terms of their health. In addition, Tanja herself was diagnosed with cancer three years ago. Today, she hopes to have successfully overcome the disease and that her condition is now stable.
A used VW Caddy with a wheelchair ramp had previously made daily life much easier for the two of them. However, at the turn of the year, the vehicle broke down due to engine failure. A new solution therefore had to be found for Tanja and her son.
Although a used Opel Combo was found, it lacked a suitable ramp. However, the existing wheelchair space—90 centimeters wide and 1.10 meters high—met the necessary requirements for a suitable solution.
The AMF-Bruns Foundation was able to provide financial support to Tanja and her son for the purchase and installation of a suitable Euro ramp.
This makes everyday life a little easier for mother and son: The wheelchair can be safely and easily loaded into the vehicle via the ramp, and it’s now easier to plan outings together again.
For the AMF-Bruns Foundation, this support is an example of how important individualized solutions are for people with disabilities and those who assist them in their daily lives. After all, when mobility is limited, it often affects not only the person with the disability but also those closest to them.
We are pleased that, through our support, we were able to help Tanja and her son gain a bit more mobility and, with it, a bit more independence in their daily lives.
